In-Season Volunteering

In-Season Volunteering

Just the thing for the person that likes to interact with the  guests and visitors while serving them at various locations, each In-Season "week" is an eight-day commitment for the twenty two (22) "Green Vesters" chosen to work throughout Medora at a variety of TRMF venues.

A schedule and extensive training, supervision and support is provided during and after orientation, so EVERYONE will know what to do, how to do it and when. You can do this, we'll help...JUST RELAX!

Volunteers work in pairs, are assigned to a "work team" and  given a  schedule for the week, in which they will rotate through various locations/businesses. Different combinations of volunteer duties are assigned to each "work team," so typically each volunteer will work at about half of the locations listed below, with daily changes in the  times and order of work shifts;

  1. Information Center / Bully the Play
The Information Center, an open air venue in the heart of downtown, is the hub for all information regarding businesses, places to go and see in Medora and the surrounding area. Volunteers greet visitors, hand out of brochures and booklets to tourists and answer numerous general and specific information requests. They will also sell and take tickets at Bully the Play, a 45 minute, one-act adaptation of the Broadway play about Teddy Roosevelt.
  2. Chuckwagon Buffet (Host/Hostess)
Medora's family eatery, the Chuckwagon Buffet is an "All You Can Eat" buffet that features western-style meals and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Volunteers greet and mingle with guests, clear tables, assist staff as needed, etc..
  3. Harold Schafer Heritage Center / Medora Doll House
Harold Schafer's hugely successful life and profound commitment to Medora and North Dakota is captured and displayed at the Harold Schafer Heritage Center (HSHC), which is also home to the Sheila Schafer Art Gallery. The volunteer welcomes guests, invites them to tour the HSHC and answers general information questions.
The Medora Doll House has an extensive collection of antique dolls and toys on display, with dolls and other items for sale in the historic Von Hoffman house. Volunteers greet visitors, promote and sell merchandise from the gift shop, and keep the place looking tidy and welcoming for tourists.
  4. Mini Golf
Mini golf and an outdoor pool are located next to the Badlands Motel. Volunteers at mini golf welcome "PGA/LPGA wannabe's," maintain the cash drawer, hand out golf clubs, etc. They also assist with minimal pool duties and supervision.
  5. Medora Campground / End of the Trail
The volunteer at the Medora Campground will meet guests, show them to their sites, assist with site checks, and help with light clean-up duties and offer assistance at the Fondue. Volunteers at End of the Trail, a discount retail store, will serve as a sales clerks and assist the retail staff as needed.
  6. Bully Pulpit Golf Course
Bully Pulpit volunteers help golfers enjoy the unique experience of playing this award -winning course. Volunteers operate the clubhouse snack bar and assist the golf course staff as needed.
  7. Pitchfork Steak Fondue (Host)
The Tjaden Terrace is the home of the world-famous Pitchfork Steak Fondue. Volunteers welcome guests, serve beverages and brownies, and monitor the line of guests waiting to be served. This event takes place every evening at 6:30 p.m.
  8. Medora Musical (Host)
The Burning Hills Amphitheatre, a spectacular 2,800 seat outdoor wonder, is the home of the Medora Musical. This professionally produced musical extravaganza is performed nightly at 8:30 p.m. Volunteers greet guests, hand out programs and usher.
  9. Highlights: Work with a team of volunteers, be in the heart of the daily activity and excitement of Medora. Greet and brighten the days of the young to the "young at heart," have so much fun you'd think it should be illegal... or at least that "we should have to pay TRMF for the privilege of volunteering," (a quote from a new 2008 volunteer).

Everyone volunteers at the Pitchfork Steak Fondue and Medora Musical!
